Why Maidstone homes struggle in summer
Kent is one of the warmer parts of England, and Maidstone sits in the Medway valley, where still summer afternoons tend to linger. The housing makes it worse in two different ways. The Victorian terraces off Tonbridge Road and around Tovil and Barming were built for coal fires, not heatwaves: solid brick soaks up heat all day and lets it back out into the bedrooms at night. Planning and electrics: check before you buy
Maidstone has a number of conservation areas — parts of the town centre, and villages on the southern edge such as Loose. If you live in one, or in a listed building, check with Maidstone Borough Council before an external unit goes on a wall. We're not saying you'll be refused; we're saying check first, because sorting the paperwork out afterwards is miserable.
