Why Northamptonshire homes get hot
The county sits in the middle of England, away from any coastal breeze, and it has been building new homes faster than almost anywhere. If you live on one of the newer developments — the big estates on the edge of Northampton, or the Priors Hall side of Corby — you will know the pattern: good insulation, big windows, and bedrooms that hold their heat stubbornly into the night during a warm spell. Modern homes are built to keep warmth in, and in summer they do exactly that.
The older stock has the opposite character. Northampton, Kettering and Wellingborough kept plenty of Victorian terraces from the boot and shoe years — solid brick, often with bay-fronted rooms and loft conversions that become the hottest room in the house. What it costs, and the village caveat

Two local caveats. Older houses — the shoe-trade terraces especially — sometimes need an electrical check or a consumer unit upgrade before an installer will fit anything, and it is a cost worth knowing about before you commit, not after. And many of Northamptonshire's stone villages sit in conservation areas. If yours does, or the building is listed, check with the council before planning any outdoor unit. It varies street by street, so don't assume either way.
